Manhattan hotel near Times Square
Think you’ve seen big? A zoning ordinance requires shop owners to illuminate their signs in Times Square. Signs aren’t signs – they’re “spectaculars”; the largest are “jumbotrons.” The crowded crossroads has long been the hub for Broadway theatergoers and New Year’s Eve partiers who make the pilgrimage for the annual ball-drop, but in the past decade it has also spruced up, cleaned up, and become one of New York’s most family-friendly playgrounds. Recently transformed into a pedestrian plaza between 42nd and 47th streets along Broadway, it is now one of the easiest places to experience New York on foot.
